Tips and Tricks 

How to use a computer and be safe from cyber-attacks

  • Use a Pop-up Blocker (Download Google Toolbar http://toolbar.google.com).
  • Create a Non-Admin ID on your computer and use that for browsing.
  • Use High or at least Medium Security levels for Internet Explorer Security.
  • Configure Windows to automatically download updates from Microsoft website.
  • Ensure that each URL reads HTTPS (and not HTTP) any time you are typing any data on website(https://www.bankofamerica.com, https://www.gmail.com) Data typed from your keyboard to the webserver would travel securely through internet with HTTPS websites.
  • Check for source of email address before opening.
  • Use a password when storing files on USB drive to ensure data privacy if in case portable drive is lost.
  • Never download an EXE file from internet or email unless you know what it will do - even from friends.
