Questions About What We Do
Do we hold workshops?
The Learning Center can offer workshops on a variety of topics as needed and as resources allow. If you are interested in developing a workshop for your students, please contact julie.wechsler@smcmail.maricopa.edu to discuss your ideas.
Can you require students to attend the Learning Center?
Students who are required to attend the Learning Center often resent the time they spend at the Center and those sessions tend to be the least productive. We suggest you provide information about the Center on your syllabus and recommend our services to your students.
Will I get feedback about students who use the Learning Center?
Tutors can complete a brief form for identifying the student, class, instructor, and what was addressed during the session. In accordance with FERPA, this report is not automatically sent to instructors; however, students have the option to request a printed copy of the report to share with you.
What can I do to make my student's tutoring sessions most productive?
- It is useful for the Learning Center to have copies of class assignments and syllabi on file. Then we can be sure we are prepared when your students come to the Center.
- For writing assignments, please indicate which documentation format you prefer or provide clear guidelines for a customized format. We will consult the most current edition of MLA or APA unless otherwise specified on the assignment or syllabus.
When are you open?
The Learning Center (Rm SS-100, next to the Bookstore) is open Monday through Thursday from 8am-8pm, Friday from 8am-2pm, and Saturday from 9am-2pm. For more information, visit us or call 602-243-8189.
