Welcome

The learning assistance program serves as a resource for instructional programs and student services; working closely with both divisions.

Created conceptually before the opening of the college to be an integral part of the instructional progam the LAC began with a grant and transitioned from part-time staff to a budgeted instructional program.

The Learning Assistance Center continues to provide both in and out of class tutotrial assistance. Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) as a tutorial resource became available to students in 1981 with three computers. The tutoring and CAI service has grown providing personal "high tech/high touch" learning skills assistance and tutoring with an active skills lab providing basic skills improvement in math, reading, writing assistance, Internet access and technology assistance to students. During the summer of 2002, the Learning Center moved into new facilities located next to the bookstore and cafeteria.

Forming a working partnership with ACE, Counseling and the Honors program in the new facilities the Learning Center underwent a positive change in the provision of services that now includes a study cafe, cyber cafe and study rooms for students.
