Introduction
At your request Learning Assistance Center (LAC) staff will introduce you to tutors and resources for your classes. Currently our tutoring is drop-in, click to see a schedule of when our tutors are available.
Students and Community Members
If you are a community member we provide free access to our tutorials and tutoring when available. Current students have a first priority for resources.
Sign-In
To serve you better we ask that you sign in at the help/sign-in desk, have a current student ID or Library card, and bring your syllabus, textbook and assignments with you when you visit.
Come prepared to work
We expect you to have read and studied your material before you see us for help. Waiting last minute to see us, just before an assignment is due does not work; see us early! We also have many other resources such as instructional software, videos, handouts, the internet, print resources and databases.
Be an independent learner!
Our goal is to help you become a successful independent learner. This is why we provide free study skills assistance, tutoring and learning resources for student use.

Textbooks
• Notes
• Past quizzes or tests
• Class Syllabus
• Homework
• Troubled workbook problems
• A Positive Attitude
Do’s!
- Be familiar with the material you will be working on before using tutoring.
- Get to know your instructor. Ask questions in class. Ask for clarification when needed. Another good time for quick individual assistance from your instructor is just before and just after class; position yourself to use it.
- Read your syllabus - Reread your syllabus - Put your syllabus where you will not lose it but can easily use it. Do you understand the requirements for your class?
- Visit your instructor during office hours when you need assistance. Some instructors schedule appointments others have open hours. This is one of the best ways to assist yourself.
- Partner up with a study group in your class. Space is available in the LAC for studying. Don't know how to start a study group? We can teach you how.
Don'ts!
- Do not expect your tutor to do your homework for you; tutors are only here to help you learn how to do your homework. Learning is a process; if you do not do your own homework you do not learn!
- Do not wait until the day before or day of a quiz or test to get help. Help may not be available. You do yourself a disservice by not preparing ahead. Learning takes time, effort and planning.
