South Mountain Community College

Testing Services provides CLEP (College-Level Examination Program) Testing in a proctored environment and is dedicated to protecting the integrity of exams.  Testing staff members are trained to administer, monitor and proctor various tests.  Their experience will ensure all testing regulations and policies are followed.

CLEP offers you the opportunity to receive college credit for what you already know by earning qualifying scores on any of the 32 CLEP examinations.  CLEP exams allow people who have acquired comprehensive subject knowledge through independent or prior study, on-the-job training, or cultural pursuits to show that they have mastered college-level material.

CLEP Testing requires pre-registration and is administered by appointment only.

Fees: The proctor fee for each CLEP exam is $20.  The proctor fee is payable before or on the day of the exam to South Mountain Community College at Business Services.  The exam fee for each CLEP exam is $77 (Beginning July 1, 2012 exam fee will be $80).  The exam fee is payable on the day of the exam by credit or debit card payable to the College Level Examination Program.  Do not combine exam fees and/or proctor fees even if the exams are administered on the same day.

You must bring two forms of identification on the day of testing.
 
(The primary form of ID must be a government-issued photo ID with signature, such as a passport, state-issued driver's license, state-issued ID card, Tribal ID, naturalization card or certificate of citizenship.)

(The secondary form of ID must have a photo or signature,
such as a Social Security card, student ID, credit card or employee ID.)

Expired IDs will not be accepted.  If you fail to present appropriate ID, you will not be tested.

An identification number will be assigned, proctor fees have to be paid, and in-take forms needs to be completed before you may begin your CLEP test.  You will need at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment for the in-take process.

Arrive on time.  You will not be admitted after the testing session has begun.

The examinee is not allowed to leave the testing room for breaks.

Talking with other candidates is not allowed in the testing room.

Children are not allowed in Testing Center and cannot be left unattended outside of the Testing Center.

You must wait six months before repeating an examination.

The following are prohibited items during testing:

  • Cellular phones/pagers, beepers, PDAs or any wireless communication devices
  • Calculators
  • Digital watches, alarm watches, or wristwatch cameras
  • Any kind of photographic or copying devise
  • Listening devices such as radios, media players, headphones or recorders
  • Dictionaries, books, pamphlets or reference materials, textbooks or notes
  • Papers (scratch paper if approved will be provided by the test center administrator)
  • Personal writing utensils (i.e., pencils, pens, and highlighters
  • Slide rules, protractors, compasses or rulers
  • Food, beverages or tobacco products
  • Jackets, hoodies, hats, caps, head-coverings (unless worn as a religious requirement)
  • Bookbags, purses, handbags or luggage
  • Any other unauthorized testing aids

If you are discovered using unauthorized materials or testing aids, inappropriate behavior or inappropriate language, the staff will stop your testing session and the incident will be reported to CLEP.  You may not be able to test again for one year.

There are limited locking spaces available for candidate use, but candidates are responsible for their personal items.
