Most scholarship applications open for a few weeks only between January-April for the following school year (which begins in August and ends the following May). If you missed deadlines below for this academic year, please set a reminder to check back beginning in January for the NEXT school year.
Students only fill out one application called "STARS" to be considered for multiple scholarships. STARS IS OPEN FOR 2013-14 FROM APRIL 1st - APRIL 29th 2013. Be prepared by having a well written essay regarding yourself and your goals.
There are many other Maricopa Community College District scholarships, SMCC departmental scholarships, & great local/national scholarships listed under steps 2, 3, and 4 below. For these awards, you must fill out the applications for each award, which are linked below each scholarship's description. For example, many students at SMCC are single parents: be sure to review the requirements for the Dorrance Scholarship listed under Step 3 below!

Eligibility Requirements: Women who are at least 40 by March 31st, enrolled at an accredited public or private school, including a community college, four-year university or technical school who are able to demonstrate financial need, and who are seeking new job skills, training and educational opportunities. Priority is given to women in three categories: Those who are raising the children of another family member, those in low-paying jobs with no career opportunities and who are lacking a retirement benefit and/or health insurance, those who have been out of the workforce for more than five yrs.
