*New MGIB - Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606) Delimiting Date
A new law (PL 107-314) has been passed extending the eligibility period for Chapter 1606 benefits from 10 to 14 years effective October 1, 1992. This means that individuals who became eligible on or after that date now have 14 instead of 10 years to use their benefit entitlement (the maximum entitlement remains 36 months).
*VA Stops Mail Based Enrollment Certification
The Muskogee VA Regional Processing center will no longer send enrollment verifications to veterans required to report monthly school attendance. Veterans must now utilize the touch-tone phone system at 1-877-823-2378 or WAVE the Web Automated Verification of Enrollment system.
*New Payment Rates!
New payment rates have been approved for full-time students for periods of active duty that are three years or more receiving Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30) from $800 to $900 effective October 1, 2002 and $985 effective October 1, 2003. Chapter 35, Survivor and Dependents Educational Assistance, rates have also increased. Effective October 1, 2001 full-time benefits went from $608 to $670.
