Student Clubs

To Rule is Easy, Governing is Difficult...

Learn to govern effectively during your college career. A complete college experience involves academic skills, as well as personal and interpersonal skills. As you pursue your educational goals, we encourage you to become involved with college activities, clubs and student government.

Student Governance

The Student Leadership Board strives to promote and provide programs, services, and events for the students and staff of South Mountain Community College.

Behavioral Health Services (BHS)

Advisor: Cori Washington  @602.243.8141

To  promote a network of Behavioral Health Services students with information and  knowledge in achieving an Associate  Degree, plus assist in the work force for  Behavioral Health field. Also to participate in school sponsored activities and  volunteer opportunities.

Bilingual Student Nursing Association (BSNA)

Advisor: Rochelle Rivas @602.243.8256

Develops leaders in the nursing program, provides networking with health professionals and institutions, and fosters success of all nursing students. BSNA is dedicated to developing cultural awareness, networking in the community, and utilizing the Spanish and English languages to contribute to underprivileged communities by promoting health care services.

Black Student Union (BSU)

The purpose of the Black Student Union, BSU, is to promote activities of common interest, as well as cultural and educational benefits for all students.

Business Club

The Business Club provides personal and professional networking and business education opportunities to all students at SMCC.

Circle of Nations

Members help American-Indian students reach their educational goals, develop leadership skills and promote cultural awareness by fostering relationships among clubs, campuses, MCCCD and the college community.

Club Teach

The aim of Club Teach is to provide opportunities for future educators to interact with peers, to develop leadership skills, to make a difference in our community, both internal and external, and to provide an environment for the discussion of teaching and learning.

International Friends Club

In alliance with the Student Life & Leadership Office, International Friends will provide a place where students can exchange ideas, cultures and experiences.

MEChA

Advisor: Carlos F. Caire @602.243.8104

Installs in Chicano students a sense of pride and awareness of their heritage and culture. Also provides counseling and tutoring whenever possible. 

Medical Scrub Club

To motivate, share knowledge, and provide guidance for South Mountain Community College students who posses an interest in the medical field.

Minority Male Achievement

To stimulate a strong interest in the retention and successful degree completion of minority male students. Also provide fellowship among the male students of color and promote academic success and academic advise for and among the members.

Phi Theta Kappa (Honor Society)

Assures that academic excellence among students is nurtured and a climate of continuing education is maintained. Alpha Eta Delta Chapter coordinates scholarship and service programs based on annual themes, leadership, fellowship; travel opportunities available to active members.

Pre-Pharmacy Club

To prepare students of South Mountain Community College for admission into pharmacy school. Members are encouraged to be involved in the community by offering volunteer opportunities. To help members strive academically, we also encourage support and social interaction through club meetings and social gatherings.

SHPE

Advisor: Tim Frank @602.243.8042

Promotes a sense of community among students interested in engineering at SMCC by providing opportunities to interact with others of similar interests. This club is affiliated with the national SHPE organization and many of the club members attend regional and national SHPE conferences. It is open to students of all ethnic backgrounds.

Spirit Club

Supports the school with high standards, create school spirit, pride, and give support to the SMCC student body and the community.

Spotlight Productions (Drama Club)

Advisor: Julie Holston @602.243.8267

Promotes theatre on the South Mountain Community College campus and in the community. Also, creates an environment in which students can explore opportunities in theatre. Membership is open to any student enrolled at SMCC interested in theatre.

Veterans Club

South Mountain Community College Veterans Club welcomes veterans from all branches of our Armed Forces who have served during times of peace and times of war. The club links veterans and their family members from all branches of military service. The club strives to support veterans by encouraging lifestyle management principles that contribute to success with their academic, community, spiritual and emotional needs. Such success will lead them to become contributing citizens for their professional and civic achievement.
